Been taking a break from my thesis to cook and enjoy the holidays, so I decided to cook up a storm with a 2 course meal! I believe I made garlic and chilli fish on baked cabbage, and for dessert... molten lava cake with honey comb ice cream!!

I did have a previous post before this, but the pictures just took too long to upload that the post wasn't posted in the end. Anyway, just to summarise that post before I begin another: Works good. Rests good. Holidays here!
When lecture ended today, my lecturer emphasised the point that the break was a Non-teaching break, not a holiday, as he has heard some students refer to it. And I guess in all honesty, students will use the break to do some catch up, but 2 weeks is really a lot of time! So why not take a holiday? This break has, interestingly been the most clear for me, in terms of what work is expected of me. I know that I have two long reports to write and that's it. Well I really shouldn't add the that's it because that downplays the effort required for the reports.
I've been taking a sudden interest in the idea of vintage. I think a concept lost on quite a few Singaporeans. There's a fine line between vintage and old, and clearly that line can afford to be more clearly defined. So what has my interest got me doing? I want a rotary dial phone! Those really old ones where you have to use your finger to dial the number.
In this day and age where technology is everywhere that you can't escape it even if you want to. It's nice to take a step back and admire how we got where we are. The era of rotary phones, dial radios, juke boxes, type writers, and glass milk bottles! We laugh at the days where we have floppy disks, beige coloured computers, bricked-size cellphones, cassette tapes and video tapes, and Windows 3.1! But one day, these will make their way into vintage and what will we think then?

Made pizzas the other night (the other night was actually quite some time ago, I've just been lazy in uploading my pictures). The top is my replica of Domino's Double Bacon Cheeseburger. I didn't get the taste quite right, but it wasn't that bad.

Went to Salvos today. Ended up buying $15 worth of "crap". The idea of going to salvos was because rach has been looking at very vintage wedding ideas. It's funny how many people don't seem to understand the concept of vintage. They always seem to associate vintage with old and outdated. I guess they aren't entirely wrong, but vintage is supposed to be a positive thing (and expensive too!).
Imagine a vintage wedding, what kind of wedding themes would there be? "2nd hand wedding", "recycled wedding", "one man's trash is another man's treasure wedding"!!! This is going to be fun (:

Been trying to reconnect myself with Singapore lately, I think. Perhaps that could explain why I've been on the Straits Times so frequently. So many new policies (especially relating to HDB!!) and the YOG, I like the way one person in the forum put it. Why does everything have to whittle down to economics?
And I think that there is so much truth to that. As much as I like looking at the economics behind policies and behaviour, I think that its taken a lot for me to finally realise that economics isn't everything.
OK, research update now. Been getting quite good positive feedback from my advisor so that's very encouraging. I just need to start putting my thoughts and results into words to be read. Just something to read for now. It's amazing how hard it is to write what you're thinking (the irony of blogging).
