Melbourne had an earthquake today!!! Ok, its the totally ignorant response, but it was exciting. I was sitting my room doing my assignment when I felt my chair shake for 5 seconds. I thought it was some tram that was driving past my building downstairs, so I looked and there was no tram, and everyone was just walking about in campus like it was a normal Wednesday. So I carried on my work.
To my surprise, I learnt later at night that what I felt was a tremor!!! My friend said she felt it too, but she thought it was her brother walking up the stairs (since Melbourne buildings are made of paper). Not very comforting knowing that there are earthquakes. What I find interesting is what we associate with earthquakes. People walking, trams moving.
I blame the Singapore government for not properly educating Singaporeans that we don't even know it when we feel a tremor. Imagine how stupid we'll look in front of our other international-tremor-feeling-country friends. They'll be like, "eh!! Just now got tremor leh!!" and we'll be like, "really ah? I thought my phone vibrated."
We should have some sort of natural disaster simulation device in Singapore to teach Singaporeans. This is what a tremor feels like, this is what a hurricane feels like. But then again, I know that much criticism will come if such a device is ever made. Poor Singaporeans.
